California, San Francisco: Paid Public Health Emergency Leave

Beginning October 1, 2022 employers with more than 100 employees worldwide will be required to provide their eligible employees in the city of San Francisco with up to 80 hours of additional paid annual leave for public health emergencies.  Leave will be calculated based on the number of hours regularly worked over a two-week period up to a maximum of 80 hours.  Public health emergencies will be defined as a local, or statewide health emergency, declared by either the city’s local health officer or the state health officer.

The San Francisco OLSE (Office of Labor Standards Enforcement) is expected to release further guidance in the near future.
