Minimum Wage Updates Effective January 1, 2024

The following state and/or city minimum hourly wages went into effect for all employers effective January 1, 2024:

  • Alaska: $11.73 / hour

  • Arizona: $14.35 / hour

  • California: $16.00 / hour

  • Colorado: $14.42 / hour

  • Connecticut: $15.69 / hour

  • Delaware: $13.25 / hour

  • Hawaii: $14.00 / hour

  • Illinois: $14.00 / hour

  • Maine: $14.15 / hour

  • Maryland: $15.00 / hour

  • Michigan: $10.33 / hour

  • Minnesota: $10.85 / hour

  • Missouri: $12.30 / hour

  • Montana: $10.30 / hour

  • Nebraska: $12.00 / hour

  • New Jersey: $15.13 / hour

  • New York: $15.00 / hour ; $16.00 (New York City, Nassau County, Suffolk County, & Westchester County)

  • Ohio: $10.45 / hour

  • Rhode Island: $14.00 / hour

  • South Dakota: $11.20 / hour

  • Vermont: $13.67 / hour

  • Washington: $16.28 / hour

The federal minimum wage for covered nonexempt employees is $7.25 per hour.

Many states also have minimum wage laws. In cases where an employee is subject to both the state and federal minimum wage laws, the employee is entitled to the higher of the two minimum wages.
